Barolo 2015 vintage overview: a wet spring followed by beautiful warm summer weather, a mild autumn and a few rain storms early in October are proving to have brought exceptional grape quality to Barolo yet again. Pia Boffa of Pio Cesare calls it “one of the best vintages since 1972.” Michele Chiarlo is particularly impressed by the phenolic ripeness achived, “close to perfection” and adds “one of the best vintages of the last twenty years”. Donato Lanati, enologist and consultant adds a cautionary note, though: “a big year indeed, but for those who understood when to harvest, without being hurried into picking y declining acidity and rising sugar levels. Those who waited to achieve full ripeness, will be the ones that will be rewarded.”
